Time: Accomplishment Enemy #1

Last time I made it to the page, I wrote about fear and it’s active role in my lack of blog posting success. Today is about that elusive resource–time. Time (or lack thereof) is a big theme in my life these days, I can’t figure out if it should be written TIME to state it’s massive importance or time because it simply seems to disappear as soon as I feel like I’ve finally gotten some!

So what is it that is keeping me so busy? Continue reading “Time: Accomplishment Enemy #1”

And we meet again…

I thought I’d revisit an old friend today, and discovered that this old friend has been absent from my life and subsequently your life since the beginning of 2016. It’s almost 2018. It’s been 2 years. How in the heck did that happen?! I’ve been racking my brain for what I’ve been doing, and why I haven’t been sharing it here with you. It amounts to a fair bit of adulting, and far more television watching than is probably ok. Thanks Netflix and Hulu.

As for the sharing part I’ll chalk that up to good ole fashioned fear. Yep fear. It’s not like I haven’t thought about this blog. Or writing. In fact, I have. And every time I manage to find a more important task that just must be done right then and there, and blogging will have to come later. Because let’s be honest I’ve got things to do, and a never-ending slew of excuses for why now is most definitely not the right time.  There is my to-do list to tackle, closets to organize, I’m tired, this blog has no focus, who is even going to read this, and oh. my. god. what if they do?! etc., etc., etc. It’s all very confusing and a lot to think through. Leading to me not writing, but thinking a lot about it. And wondering what this blog may be if I can only get it together.

Fear. I really don’t want to live my life worrying about what everyone that stumbles across this blog may think. But that is exactly what I’ve been doing. The road to blog abandonment is paved with excuses and driven by fear. And when I have caved and somehow made it to the page to write, I cringe at the thought of actually publishing a post. When I opened this blog today, I was welcomed by 39 draft posts reminding me that I’ve dipped my toes in, and then run screaming in the other direction–safe in the security of the unpublished post. Shew.

Can I change? Can I stop with the excuses, and find the courage to hit publish? Can I make those 39 posts live? And then can I create more? Oh, the suspense. I guess we’ll all just have to wait and see.

It’s Cleansing Time: 21-Day Clean Program

So it’s January and I’m super original so I’m trying this cleanse rigmarole again. I knew over the holidays that I was going for it which was most convenient. Oh yes, I’ll have another cookie. A bucket of sausage balls. Another bottle of champagne. You see, it’s all good. I’m cleansing in January. I might have used it as an excuse to be indulgent over the holidays, but I was excited to take on the 21-Day Clean Program. After an attempt that wasn’t so stellar with another program, I’m thrilled to find the right fit for me. It’s basically the elimination diet that I completed in the Spring with an element of detox. I’m over halfway through the program and feeling pretty spectacular!

I have shakes provided through the program for breakfast and dinner complimented with additions such as avocado, blueberries, carrots, peaches, pineapple or whatever strikes my fancy that can be tossed in the blender. Continue reading “It’s Cleansing Time: 21-Day Clean Program”

Road Tripping

I was driving through Virginia recently on my way home from a meeting in Annapolis, Maryland. I found Virginia to be quite an entertaining place. I came away with some questions, saw some interesting things and had A LOT of time alone in the car. Here’s a rundown. So I may or may not have been extremely sleep deprived. You can be the judge of that. Continue reading “Road Tripping”

Tea Tree Oil-1 Me-0

I keep wondering why I seem to have so many random mishaps happen. Then I have an ah-ha moment and realize that I’m meant to share them all here with you. In my what will one day be a famous series a la Emily Post. Except I’ll tell you what you need to know before you even know you need to know it. Pretty clever.

So the latest mishap occurred when I decided to try out the merits of tea tree oil for a pesky scalp issue I’ve been having. (Yep full disclosure here) I purchased a bottle of must be amazing cause it’s from Whole Foods tea tree oil and was on my way.  Continue reading “Tea Tree Oil-1 Me-0”

My Life These Days…

Me: This tea is pretty tasty. (as I happily sipped from my tea mug)

Garett: Oh. So you finally added the tea.

Me: What??

I was drinking a mixture of coconut oil, cinnamon and hot water that was also supposed to contain Earl Grey tea. In my frazzled state, the tea bag didn’t make it into the mug. I didn’t even notice that I wasn’t actually drinking tea. It was hot, comforting and hitting the spot. Sometimes almost is close enough.

Kitchen Tales

I’m prepping to make a crock pot and thought I’d share a cautionary tale. Yep another one. They keep coming so I’m going to keep sharing in the hopes I’ll provide some sort of helpful advice. One of my favorite mainstays on the elimination diet was chicken breasts cooked in the crock pot with taco seasoning. Of course I couldn’t use my normal go-to taco packet seasoning as it wasn’t diet approved so I was pretty proud of myself for putting together my own. Who knew the taco seasoning packet was merely a tasty mix of cumin, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, onion powder, salt and pepper (and probably some other weird preservatives that I definitely do not need). Pretty fool proof and no chopping required which made it an A+ recipe in my book. Continue reading “Kitchen Tales”

Better Late Than Never-Happy Father’s Day!

It appears that I’ve started “gifting” through my blog. As in, I’m so sorry that I couldn’t get you an awesome present for said holiday, BUT I dedicated a post to you on my blog. It seemed to work great for Mother’s Day so I thought I’d give it another whirl and dedicate this post to my Dad. And it’s not even very, very belated. I always wanted to use my writing for something… Continue reading “Better Late Than Never-Happy Father’s Day!”

Figure it Out Friday

I’m working to make sense of the smorgasbord of posts on this little jewel of a blog, and thought I’d come up with a few categories to make some sense of it all and to help me develop a series of posts.

Especially since I see some reoccurring themes like cautionary tales. Maybe, possibly even get on some sort of posting schedule? Sounds crazy, I know.  Continue reading “Figure it Out Friday”

Flashback Friday

So I fell off the wagon with my Writing 101 course with everything that we’ve had going on recently. It felt like a good time to review the prompts I missed, and give it another whirl. Soooo here goes…a walk down memory lane to my favorite childhood meal. For some reason, the first thing that came to mind were the turkey packets I pretty much lived on as a teenager. You know, the frozen turkey packets with the yummy gravy? A quick spin in the microwave, and voila thanksgiving on my plate! The must have accessory was soft, white sandwich bread to sop-up the gravy. Continue reading “Flashback Friday”
